Ep7 - Is Faith Always Helpful?

If you’re someone who is struggling with a mental health challenge – be it anxiety, depression, or something else – and you’re also someone of faith, it would be easy to think that throwing yourself into learning everything you can about God, serving Him in every way possible, and making that the focus of your life would be the way to deal with that challenge. Right?

But maybe not.

For Chris – one of the voices from Season 1 – it wasn’t the case. Growing up in difficult circumstances and dealing with depression from a relatively young age, Chris thought that the more he could do for God, the better his mental health would be. Yet even as he threw himself completely into his faith, it didn’t necessarily make his struggle any better.

In this episode he shares his story, and how chasing all the answers to the anxiety-inducing questions of his faith didn’t lead to answers. Instead, he learned how to live out his faith in a more personal way, and find peace along the way.

Chris has also written a blog post called ‘I Was a Pastor With Depression’, which you can read here.
